Description

Deliciously soft and zesty orange scones, easy to make at home and perfect for sharing.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold
  • Zest of 1 large orange
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 23 tablespoons fresh orange juice (for glaze)
  • Zest of 1 orange (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add orange zest and juice, mixing gently.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and heavy cream together, then add to the dough, mixing just until combined.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and pat it into a rectangle about 1 inch thick.
  7. Slice into triangles and place on a baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden.
  9. While cooling, make the glaze by mixing powdered sugar and orange juice until smooth.
  10. Drizzle glaze over scones and let set before serving.

Notes

For a twist, add dried cranberries or white chocolate chips. Serve with clotted cream for an extra treat.
